The London plane is a much loved exotic tree that provides beauty on our streets and in our parks.  It is especially effective in a large garden setting where its presence and majesty can be appreciated.  Growing up to 15m with a crown spread of up to 10m, the tree has a pyramidal shape and its crown branches upwards and spreads. During autumn the leaves turn from a vibrant green to tawny brown and gold hues which provide a colourful display.  In winter the bare boned beauty of the skeleton of the tree is revealed. The distinctive bark is ornamentally very attractive as it peels off to reveal creamier camouflage patterns as the tree gets older.  The tree is very tolerant of atmospheric pollution and root compaction, making it an ideal tree for urban areas.
