On Thursday, the 2nd of February, we celebrate World Wetlands day.
In 2012, close to 4% of South Africa’s surface area (over four million ha) had been mapped and classified as wetlands in South Africa. These Wetlands are extremely important as they purify and replenish water while acting as a sponge to counteract flooding and drought. Teeming with bio diversity, the wetlands also act as storage for carbon.
