Therapeutic value of trees

Energizing power of trees

Healing spiritually

Trees are a source of energy on many levels.  From a physical aspect, trees provide oxygen and shade, as well as fruit and wood to help ensure our survival.  In addition, the energy of trees can also affect our mental, emotional and spiritual energy.

Think of the peace and serenity people feel when sitting under a tree or walking through a forest.  Children experience feeling of joy when climbing a tree or spending time in a tree house.  These feelings are ascribed to the energy frequency or vibration that is naturally found in trees.  Essentially trees give out the energy vibe of safety, security and stability.

Healing medicinally

Although herbs and plants have long been harvested for their medicinal healing properties, tree derivatives have become more prominent in the last few decades.

Here are a few examples:

Maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba) – known as the ‘Memory tree’, Ginkgo biloba extract has antioxidant properties which fight off free radicals that may lead to premature ageing and disease.  It also contains anti-coagulent properties which help keep blood vessels dilated and prevents abnormal clots from forming.

Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) – the extract ‘aescin’ has been shown to prevent a range of blood vessel problems.    It is effective against varicose veins, haemorrhoids and water retention after surgery.  It is also a favourite to aid healing with sprains and bruises.

Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) – Tea tree oil is a powerful antiseptic and antifungal agent that is well known for its medicinal properties in treating various skin and fungal ailments.  From acne to  eczema, boils and fungal nail infections, tea tree oil is beneficial in treating the problem.
